Exhibit Synopsis

Introduction

Among Prexie collectors the scarcity of the 10c coil on cover is legendary. The stamps, while plentiful as mint line pairs or pairs, also represent a challenge for locating varieties of any kind. The objective of this exhibit is to show the stamp and its known varieties along with usages.

Treatment

This exhibit follows the organization of a traditional exhibit, preproduction and stamps first, followed by usages. If shown in a traditional setting, it would be considered a one frame exhibit. There are no separate pages, but rather three parts – Introduction, Production, Usage. All material is owned by the exhibitor and none has been digitally enhanced.

Significance

Because of its scarcity on cover, this is one of the more important stamps from what has been recognized as the most important 20th century definitive series. While the 10c regular issue stamp is ubiquitous among Prexie postal history, the coil value is elusive. It is suggested that judges read Searching for the 10 Coil of the 1938 Presidential Series. With the exception of ordinary line pairs, the philatelic material in the exhibit is not easily located. It is a collection assembled over 25 years.
